Completely understand the 'couldn't stop once started'. This goofy lock-down had me sitting on a 5 gallon bucket with 80 up to 220 grit regular old sandpaper, then Meguiars hard cut, Meguiars med cut, Mothers mag and aluminum polish to finish it off. Taped off the important parts, but never took the fender off. One of my favorite sayings...."Far from perfect, but perfect from far". I'll get to finishing the right way later, but it took me about 3 hours total for both legs. I'd been looking at them since I bought it in 2010....now I'm looking at them for a better reason.

Wow, that's a heck of a transformation! Dyna fenders are much easier off and on, so I did that to make life slightly easier. Was going to do the sandpaper route, too, but my Harbor Freight order was delayed, and I just started polishing ... Then I cancelled my order lol.

That looks great. I haven't tried it on chrome. Thought it might be too harsh in the long run. I know chrome is more of a layer, and if you go too far, you get down to the part of the alloy that is coppery orange. My headlamp hood had that problem when I bought it, so I ended up putting a chrome cover on it.

the only other thing i used was some 0000 steel wool to remove the little clear coat that was left.
