The paint is rubbish IMO. I have the same problem its vivid black. All the comments submitted are fair enough.I've decided to take off the fenders and tank and have them clear coated with a harder additive...I've got someone in the knowsourcing Dupont. The job is not done as yet but if your interested in the outcome, let me know andI'll get back to you when it is. Perhaps September

The key to Scratch X is to continue rubbing until the stuff dissapears from the surface completely. It has what is known as diminishing abrasives. The continued rubbing actually creates a finer and finer abrasive until it's gone. Lot's of elbow grease through but it brings my vivid black back to showroom.

H-D has some of the best finishes in the business however the work from York seems to be suffering from quality issues over the past couple years, the paint from KC seems better.

One thing I do when I am concerned about creating scratches is to clay the finish. You'd be amazed at what it will do for you. It's rare to get the finish completely clean just by washing it, and drying (and waxing) will just grind that remaining grit in. Have a look at one supplier:

No affiliation, etc.

I tried claying. I am not a novice, this bike is my 4th black hd. Never had any issues with other 3, just this one.

For at-home detailing, claying should only be done when you plan tho re-apply your wax or sealant as it will remove it.

This place cracks me up .... someone asks a question, you offer some advice and they get an attitude. :-)

No attitude here. I would not post if I did not want the advice.

Just a quick note about Micro Fiber, If you have ever seen the processof how they are made you'd understand how they clean. You MUST be careful,.... they will pick up the smallest particle of gritand scratch the heck out of anything you touch it with. I have seen more folks scratch the heck out of their windshields and paint with microfiber/ Please be careful when using them, handwash them don't wash them in the washing machine with other fabrics.
