Hey everyone,
Just got a new sportster 1200 custom with lots of chrome. Talk to me about keeping it clean. What products should i use, etc?
Thanks,
Mike
Mike, I usually use McGuires Quick Detailer on the chrome and paint. If it is really dirty, I run it by the car wash first to blast all the gunk off. If Get a product called Plexux to clean and polish your windscreen, if you have one. You might also take a gander down at the detailing section. There are quite a few good ideas there, like the Mr. Clean kit.
I'm a little wierd, but I actually enjoy polishing up the old scoot. Sorta like therapy.

I guess I'm wierd too! Actually, I just cant stand to see the bike have any grime on it. I have used Mothers brand chrome polish for quite some time on my vehicles and I now I use it on my bike. Its a damn good chrome pollish. I have been using some of the Harley brand soaps and paint pollish's my wife got me as a gift when I got the bike. The soap is nothing special really, but the spray on pollish (called Harley Gloss) is pretty nice. Really puts a nice shine on the bike and supposed to help with U.V. rays. My bike is black so when its clean its beutifull. After about a half hour of riding the dust really shows and I start fealing the need to clean again!!
Just found and add for this stuff in American Iron magazine. Its called S100 Polishing Soap. Has anyone heard of or tried any of this stuff? S100 Polishing Soap
S100 is good stuff too and can usually be found at your HD dealer. It's no better or worse than regular HD stuff IMO but people have their preferences. From what I can tell Meguires is the best but then there's also the sponser we have here: Wolfgang. You might wanna give them a try too.
After I get my bike washed I give it a good coat of Pledge furniture polish. Works good on the paint and the chrome. Leaves a nice film on the bike(with no streaks). Bugs, water spots, etc.. come off easy. I am new to bikes but have been using it to keep concrete pumps clean for years. Whose idea it was to put polished alum rims on anything around concrete??
