Default power surge then dip...

Been having an intermittent problem now for a few months. At first engine would cut out when i eased on throttle for lights or a junction then instantly re-start again, so i put a new set of plugs in and that seemed to cure it, but now i find i can be cruising along and i will get a split second surge then dip in power and my clocks will drop down to zero then shoot back up...its an 06 dyna and i'v already had the IPB, rotor and stator changed, though the rectifier wasnt done when the stator was changed...anyone any ideas? Bad fuel? Fuel filter? Electrics?

You have probably checked already but could it be your ground?

Like jdunn said check your ground and battery terminals first if you haven't already. My buddy had the same problem we spent gourde checking voltage reg, stator, etc.. Just assumed the battery terminals were tight, problem ended up being a loose ground terminal.

No joy with the ground or battery, just checked all connections and they seem fine. I did have trouble with positive terminal on the battery last spring but got it sorted, also it is the original battery that came with the bike but it still does what its supposed to do...

Very frustrating, had it out today for a while, mostly urban riding, but it never missed a beat once...

If it's an 06 and it's the original battery is most likely due for a new battery. You might as well put a new one in even though it's seems like it's doing its thing.

Default Voltage Regulator

Sounds like it is the voltage regulator...Have you put a multimeter on the output of the regulator to see how many volts it is putting out ? Have you switched handlebars ? Might have a intermittent short to ground. Have the battery load tested.

Does it do it when its low on gas? If so, it could be a hole in the fuel line inside the tank. I had that issue last year.

New battery and testing regulator will be next moves though i had battery tested after original trouble and its output was good, also handlebars are the originals and it happens regardless of fuel levels.

Thanks all for your input.

Maybe when you were checking the connections, you fixed it.
