Anyone else ever have this problem?
2013 FXDWG, left for work yesterday morning, it was cold, but not below freezing. Started out, fuel light came on, said 18 miles remaining. Analog guage showed roughly qurter tank left. Remaining miles started going up, figured that was due to cold. Kept going up to 25, 35, 50 miles. After work, was still at 50 miles, went down to 49, and stayed there. I stopped and filled up. Remaining miles went up to 181, and never changed all the way home.
Any thoughts? Thanks.
The remaining miles on my '13 street bob can be squirrly too sometimes. I'll fill it up to the same amount and some days it'll say 181 miles on a full tank, others 205 or so. So I don't take that too literally, just as a ball park. Not that that is much help other than to say you're not the only one that kind of thing happens too.
My street glide does that. When it gets down to around 40 miles it is very close. It operates off of riding preferences. In other words it changes as the vacuum changes so the fuel mileage goes up and down kinda easy. So this shows it when the mileage changes on the R. It is very sensitive when low on fuel. If you wait until the light comes on it is more accurate. Least wise the street glide does.
Ive never had it go back up but it does seem to go down pretty quickly at that point. Just happened to me the other day.
Light came on when I was leaving work(which is only 9 miles from home) and normally that comes on at 30 miles left. When I got home it said 18 left. I figured I had enough to make it to work the next morning.
Next morning I started the bike and it showed 18 again and every minute or so it dropped one. Like, really fast. Soon after about 5 miles I was down to 10 and the low range stayed on the dash. I was still 4-5 miles from work but my drive is all in traffic. I was getting worried I wouldnt make it.
Luckily, I did make it even though the whole last mile I have the clench going where I thought I was going to have to roll the bike the rest of the way.
The gas station is about a mile away from work so again I had the fear going when I left to get filled up. I made it however and filled the tank with 4.26 gallons. Not sure how much I had left but this is the most Ive ever filled the tank.
I'm pretty sure you've got about a 4.8 gallon tank so you were pretty low at that point. Like Dirt said it can vary depending on driving habits at the time. I've had mine go up while going down a hill.
I never use it for its intended purpose, I know it is not correct, just an estimate. But I was worried when it went up from 18 to 50, didnt ride today, Ill check it in the morning. Thanks all.
My 13 bob has done pretty much the same thing but it was because I had less then 1/4 tank in it when I shut it off. So the tank gauge goes down past e when I shut it off and when I started it I guess the computer thought it was empty because it immediately said low range, let it idle for a minute and the digital meter corrected itself.
