I bought the bike used a year ago. It has 8000 miles on it 103 motor with screaming eagle filter and Rinehart pipes. Has download from the dealer. Bike has ran fine up until a month ago. I started it up and it revved a little high for a bit. Then seemed to be fine. I took it on an errand in town and on the way home when I pulled the clutch in and was coasting for a second the rpms dropped to 800 then in the 700's and numbers were flashing on the left side of the tach 4,3,2 Then the bike cut off. It started right back up. It runs fine while you are giving it some throttle or just driving but if you coast for a few seconds it starts to idle down and then it cut off again. It doesn't always cut off but the rpms will drop down to 800 or so everytime. If you come to a stop it will idle back up to 1000?
You can sit at a stop with the clutch in and it will idle all day. Seems to be some issue with it coasting with the clutch in??
Any help before I have to take it to the delear would be appreciated.
Before you take it to the dealer go over all the simple stuff. Check battery cables and especially the ground connection, condition of fuses and relays.
Try cleaning the IAC.
Sounds like a fuel problem. If you have a damaged fuel line you will smell gas. To check the fuel pressure you will need a inline fuel gauge:
Use a fuel stabilizer with injector cleaner and change the filter if the pressure is low. Also, performance tuners usually have a setting for how much fuel is provided when slowing down. The setting is a fine balance between stalling and popping and backfires. You said you have a download from the dealer which makes me assume you don't have a tuner but you may want to look under the seat to be sure.
Definitely does not have a tuner on it. I will check the fuel line and pressure. I am wondering what is up with the number flashing beside the rpms when it starts to drop. Is that a code from the factory or a warning of some type?
