Default ape hangers question

Hey all, bought a beautiful 2000 Dyna Low Rider that has stock buckhorn handlebars, I was looking at 12 inch ape hangers to put on it, will I have to replace the cables to do this? This is my first Dyna and I love it, much more fun to ride than my Electra Glide, dont get me wrong, on long trips I take the Electra Glide, but every where else its the Dyna. Thanks

I just put a set of Streetbob 10" mini apes on my bike no cable changes needed, if I went with the 12" I would have had to change the cables. Hope this helps

Plan on changing the throttle and clutch cable. The brake line will probably not reach so you will have to replace that.

I replaced the stock handlebars on my 2001 SG with 10 inch minis for a WG and the throttle cables seemed to fit but were binding when the bars were full left and the brake line was several inches too short and had to be replaced. Since it was an older bike, I just decided that it would be best all around just to replace them all...the cables and brake line for a Wide Glide fit just fine.

Yes, plan on replacing them. Get the bars you want, then remove your old bars, loosely mount the new bar and check your cable length. The newer models 06 and up harley left a little more room for growth so to speak when they changed the Dyna connectors to be under the frame front rather than down inside the backbone.

+1

When I swapped the stock buckhorns for Street Bob take offs I went +4" on all the cables and the brake line. Sure it added some expense but now I've got some sweet braided steel lines!
