Default Shift Rod Replace Help

My shift rod/shaft (the part that the shifter pedal connects to) is all worn out snd needs replacing. I know the primary cover needs to come off, but once I'm in, can someone give me s step by step?

I have a '14 FXDB, so it'll probably be slightly different, but here's a thread I posted when I put forwards on my bike: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=916645

A few videos from FixMyHog that I found useful: Softail Rear Belt Replacement Part I, II, III

And lastly, the service manual was pretty much a requirement for me.

Hope this helps.

How would that shaft get worn out? Not something I've heard of before.

The entire primary needs to come off. Good opportunity to replace some of those seals if they are leaking. If the shaft itself is messed up then replace the lever at the same time because the splines will be messed up on that too. You'll need the outer pri cover gasket, inner pri gasket, tower gasket, inner pri bolts, shift lever assembly and shift lever. And then any seals that need to be replaced. Those shafts get messed up from slamming on the shift lever when shifting. Make sure you tighten the hell out of the shift lever bolt when you put it back together

Probably about $100 in parts and ~ 3 hours of work. If you need to upgrade your compensator, clutch spring, or primary chain tensioner - opportunity time...

Easy replacement for sure. Definitely replace the inner primary seal and don't reuse the five sealing bolts

Waiting on your 124" build thread because you need to have a reason to use a new impact gun!
