Obviously when first started in open loop it's running crappy but fine when it goes into closed loop. Possible your coolant temp sensor but I would still bring it in. Its free Cause falls under the emissions warranty....
try this leave it outside too get very hot,,, remove your gas cap,(HOLD IN YOUR HAND) then start your bike any see if its any better,,,,,, if its great then a faulty cap causing VAPOUR LOCK
if the new fuel caps aren't vented, there is a vacuum being created in the tank. I would also try the cap off trick. If it was okay before the fuel cap change out that would steer me to the caps or a vent problem.
So i followed the wires from the battery and traced several ground connections and the big connection to the starter. I disconnected them, clean them off (there was a little corrosion on some of them) and reconnected nice and tight. Problem hadn't come back for a couple days, until today. Except today it was different, it was less...stubborn to start. gave it very little throttle to come back up. opened the gas cap as suggested, and that didn't necessarily solve the problem. however that's when i realized two things.
1. it's not as hot outside as it was before (hasn't been since)
2. the fuel level is getting around half (apparently, if i think about it...last few times this happened gas was around the same)
so, when i get some time and the fuel level is lower, i'm going to open up the tank and take a look inside. I'm speculating to find a bad o-ring or maybe a discrepancy with the fuel lines. whilst browsing the forums i came upon a thread where people had issues with the stock harley fuel lines in the tank.
