You can order a manual online or just pick one up at the dealership. I would go with the OEM Harley service manual.
You mention a mysterious black wire velcroed to the frame under the seat. That doesn't sound right at all. I do have a question about this wire, Do you have a security system with the audible alarm on this bike? If so, the wire you see may be the antennae for the receiver. I have a wide velcro strip under my seat that comes with the alarm system and you are supposed to run the wire across the area under the seat and cover it with this velcro strip. That's may be what you are seeing.
Yes sir. I bought this bike used so I don't know all that was done to it, unfortunately. I have that audible alarm the chirps when you walk away.

Then that wire is exactly the antenna that picks up the signal from the key fob. I have one too.
Also it's a good idea to get an OEM harley manual for your bike, not the cheaper ones to save what 20$. Howefver on ebay you may find a used one since our bikes are geytting older now! mine's a '08

If the main fuse isn't making good contact your light will stay on but the bike won't start. Luckily I never had my bike shut off on me riding. I pulled all the fuses and put some dielectric grease on everything and the problem hasn't showed up in 2 years. If that doesn't work try a new battery in the key fob.
Update. I took it into the shop and they gave the usual everything is fine, can't duplicate the problem, it's probably the PC.
Didn't find any codes n it. Haven't cleaned the iac yet (I'll do that next). It has shut a few more times since this last post. All shut offs have been after a hard acceleration then shortly thereafter an immediate deceleration while the clutch was pulled in.
I was planing on doing this anyway, but I removed the pcv for the pv. When removing the pcv, I noticed that the ecm plug (the plastic part) was damaged. I don't think it anything to do with the issue, but who knows. I loaded the FM map via the pv onto the ecm. Went for one ride, rode it really hard, and so far so good. I'm going to try it some more this weekend to see if it misbehaves. I'm leaning towards bad mapping on the pcv, but that's just a guess.
