suicide throttle screw - you should back this off all the way and not use it, however - if you really want to, you can tighten it up and use it like cruise conrol on long highway rides.
the play is normal, the cables need to move some as the bars are turned.

what do you consider "alot" of free play?? I have abt 1/8-1/4" free play in my throttle grip. If you have more you can adjust the idle and throttle cables with two 3/8" wrenches to that amount. As stated previouosly though, make sure you got play in your grip for the whole range of motion of your handle bars.
On the "cruise control" knobsubject...I've actualy used mine...before it fell off after the first month or so. It was kinda fun...like playing chicken with yourself. I've never missed it though and don't think I would use it normaly anyway. Most guys leave them off after they fall off. the stealer probably want a Hundred Dollars (HD) for it anyway.
On the throttle play, my dealership adjusts mine way too loose for my tast. I usualy adjust it back up to just a1/16"of play (giv or take)with it being able to move all the way through the motion of the bars.
