Default Throttle slop

Is a half inch play in the throttle too much? Just had different handlebars installed and it seems a bit sloppy. Never noticed it before but maybe it was there and I'm just now noticing it because of the new bars.

No slop, cables need adjusting.

Did a search and found that some are saying that FI bike with electronic cruise control will have more throttle play. Some say it should not. I guess I am confused as to what to do.

Just adjust your cables. Mine had a lot of free play when I brought it home from the dealer. I adjusted the cables and now I have no problem. It will take 2 minutes!

Sparky,

Even with a cruise control, there should be only a little play in the grip, but not half and inch! You can adjust this yourself if you choose to.

Identify the throttle cable from the retun cable. Pull back the rubber sleeve from the throttle cable under your RH grip. One cable is for the throttle the other one is for the throttle return. You'll only need to adjust the throttle cable. Using two wrenches, loosen the nut that locks the cable adjuster. Then, start turning the adjuster a few turns. Then move the grip around to check the amount of play. If the play lessen, then do a few more turns to the desired amount of play. Tighten the lock nut back with the two wrenches, slip the rubber sleeve back over the adjuster. You're done!

Mine feels spongy in the closed position, not what I am used to. I adjusted the cables the old fashioned way and found it to be better, then got the service manual and found that on cruise equipped bikes in addition to two wrenches I needed to use a multimeter, two banana peels, a curling iron, and a twelve pack just to adjust the d@mn cable. You also have to remove the left side cover! I adjusted it exactly like the manual says and now it feels spongy again, but by golly its adjusted right.

What the heal is up with the sm for adj cruise control! I just did its like "normal" previously mentioned after cc was installed and its purfect. Maybe got luck or something to do with that roll off switch being in line with a section of the return cable?
