Intermiitent brake light failure
All metal oxidizes/corods over time. I have seen that happen on light sockets in older vehicles many times. You can take some sandpaper, a file, or whatever you can fit in the socket to freshen up the metal contacts. Dielectric grease helps prevent corrosion and to keep out moisture. You should use it every time you replace a bulb.
Also, The metal connection tabs in the socket have a spring effect to them. If a bulb is in for a long time they will not spring back. You need the spring effect to help make a good connection. As previously mentioned, use a flat head screw driver to lift the tab back up.
Loose connections or compromised insulation on a wire can also cause these issues. Check the easy stuff first before your start taking things apart and replacing switches and sockets.
Good Luck!
