I ordered a set of replacement pulley bolts from fastenal.. but I need to order washers. Can anyone tell me what size they are? I'm not home and wanna get them ordered...
Also, the fastenal bolts are a tad shorter than the harley bolts.. does that matter?
The bolts I ordered are:
7/16"-14 x 2-1/2" Yellow Zinc Finish SAE J429 Grade 8 Hex Cap Screw
OK, all mine the washers come off. I have always either reused them with Loctite (I know it says do not reuse) or if damaged or too rusty got a set from Harley $20 or so.

Take this with a grain of salt because I'm not 100% sure on it, but if I remember correctly grade 5 bolts have a higher sheer strength than grade 8. Grade 8 has a higher tensile strength. If that IS true, grade 5 may be the better way to go. Also I'm sure you already know this but HD put out a service bulletin on the torquing procedure so your SM may have the old procedure. Good luck izzy, I have no info on the washer size, I'm sure any 7/16 washer will work, the stock ones are probably about 1/8" thick

I may be wrong.. but I thought a bolts shear strength is roughly about 60% of it's tensile strength.

I just did a little googling and I think your right on the money. Probably another old wives tale. Only reason I brought it up is because we were sheering bolts on our equipment trailers at work and the mechanics said it was because of the grade 8 bolts. They put in grade 5 and the bolts stopped sheering, but this is a different scenario
