Total bump for these shocks and a wonderful company to work(s) with!!!
First, I'd ordered a set of 12" street trackers. Ride was already loads better than the shocks I'd been running, but I was dragging my pegs on low speed turns. Works has a 30-day trial window, so I figured I'd take advantage. Popped em off and sent them back for lengthening to 12.5".
Long story short, I'm about 130lbs soaking wet, and the shocks came back way too stiff compared to the first set they'd sent me. I ended up riding my bike to Works direct (they don't normally do installation, but my access to a bike lift is very limited) and they spent 2 hours respringing and adjusting the shocks to my exact specs.
All I can say is HOLY CRAP these shocks are unfrigginbelievable. My bike is totally solid at high speed and corners like a demon on a roller coaster. I ended up going with the 12.5" which compress to exactly 12" when I sit on the bike.
I can't recommend these shocks enough. Solid people and huge ups to head tech Pierre for spending so much time with my dumb@ss today!
Great to hear! I have the black trackers and Works was really good to work with. Still I feel like they may be too stiff for me, need to keep playing with preload. Did you say that you had your sag set to a half inch? Was that reasonable? I have my preload set pretty much as low as it can go and I have about three quarters to an inch of sag and like I said they feel too stiff. Maybe I'm going in the wrong direction and I should have less sag?
when you sit on the bike, your shocks should compress about 3/4 of an inch. The "stiff" Works pair I'd gotten only compressed about 1/4 of an inch and were night and day from my current pair (about 5/8" compression). call works and talk with them, they'll troubleshoot with you!
My experience with Works was not so happy. A few years ago, I bought a pair of used Works on eBay when I had a Sportster. I believe they were sprung for a Dyna and Works was extremely unhelpful about respringing them. I ended up selling them at a huge loss.
