I don't, we pool our money and when one of us wants something, we check and if we can afford it, we get it and both know about it. It makes life much better. besides, my wife is always buying me stuff for my bike because she knows how much I like it. I have a good relationship with her and OUR money.
i get an allowance and i can do what ever i want with it. but when i go to strip clubs i have to take her that is a rule, she will make some exceptions to it though for bachelor parties and such. Generally though my bills are paid i have money for lunch and such and big items that cause debt we discuss cause we share the debt.
I buy the parts, (LIKE MY MUSTANG SEAT just recently) and on the other side I order her a perfume bottle.
Then I come home with the seat in the box and she gives me that look (that's how it went actually) asking me what that was so I give her the lowdown. Then I told her, "Here, I have something for you too". And bingo!!! LOL
Works everytime. Perfume is her thing, don't know about your sweet half though.
