Default throttle cable broke

So i was rippin down the 5 fwy like 95 plus and i hear a snap and no more response from my throttle grip. (At first i thought it was stuck at full throttle.) So i pull the clutch drop it into neutral and coast off the fwy to the closes exit ramp. I look things over and of courae i just took ny road kit out early that week. Either way i ended up grabbing hold of the velocity stack and using my thumb to manually engauge the carb with my left hand on the cluth i cruised home.

Well regardless of why it broke i need to fix it. I do not know how to get the cables off of the switch houseing some help would be appreciated. I tried pulling i tried spinning i tried prying. I dont see a snap ring. What to do what to do.

Here are the pictures

To get the cables out of the housing pull very hard while rocking the cable back and forth. It takes a lot of force to get them out. When replacing make sure you get the correct cable in the correct hole. The throttle and return cables are different, I believe it is the return cable that has a spring on it.

Default Throttle Cable Replacement

Save the little brass ferule as you will need it to top go on the new cable. Thread the cable through the housing and then put the ferule back on the cable. Hold the cable and ferule at ninety degrees to to the groove that the cable rides in. Then just slip it into the hole in the throttle and let the cable fall into the groove it rides in. Screw things back together.

+1 on the brass ferules even if you get new ones with the new cables.

BUT you should NOT PULL HARD to get the old cables out. There are small snap rings (round brass like clips) at the base of the lower throttle housing that hold the cable housings in place. They're easy enough to get off and a pain in the *** to get back on. It's best to make sure they're in there because they keep the housing from shifting in and out with the cable, otherwise you end up relying on compressing the cable housing between the throttle housing and the carburetor or injector mount. Also, assuming that you'll replace both, the return cable is definitely different and should have a spring on the carburetor end.

Inside the throttle housing you should see some small snap rings / round clips holding the cable housing to the throttle housing.

Ya learned that quick. ....i rigged the idle cable to work as a solo throttle cable. 1 cable system. Well thr ferrules with the idle cable as smaller than the hole for the throttle cable it slips right out.....either way i got my bike running with the wrong cable for now ill fix it first chance i get at least i can stil ride around town.
