So I ordered bars from licks... The 12" z'S for my 2015 Fxdb. Thought I could just pull the connectors and all through the bars. Well the holes at the bottom of the new bars are way to small for that. So now I have to pull the pins out of te connector and I can't get them out. I've tried paper clips and a needle. Maybe I'm just not hitting the right spot? Advice would be appreciated.
Do a quick u tube search for this. A picture is worth a 1000 as they say. They do make special tools to extract the pins but I didn't have them when I did my bike, so it can be done without them. Take your time and don't mug them up too much! Good luck.
I had the same challenge with my turn signal relocation. Shame about your bars though, the mini connectors on the new bikes are so small!
It took me about 20 minutes to get my first connector, it won't make a sound and you do need to give a general tug. In the end a paper clip worked for me and once you get the first one the rest will take less than a minute. Good luck!
Thanks guys. I appreciate it... I had to take a break. Tedious things like that really annoy me lol. Plus I had to be at work at 6. But I'll go back after it tomorrow evening and see what I can accomplish. Thanks again.
I found a small eye glasses flat head screw driver works best if you don't have the tool. Slip it into the connector on the side the wire goes into and you can depress the metal clip.
I found a bobby pin that's straightened out on one end so it makes an L shape works pretty good and I always draw up a quick diagram of the connector and label the wire colors on the diagram.
And I always make the holes bigger (and oblong,) at the bottom of the bars before I start.
Just did same thing. Die grinder with a cylindrical bur and the go back through with some deburring stones to smooth inside out. Worked out good. I have unpinned all the lights on my bike. Didn't feel like messing with the tiny ones when I have the stuff to make the holes slightly bigger to accommodate the whole connector. If you do unpin them all its seems they are all white but colored stripes. Make a nice diagram showing the top of the connector and mark each color on diagram and you shouldn't have too much issue. Also new pins and Tyco/amp/Delphi whatever plastic housing are real cheap at dealer.
