Removing Baffles: Bad for the engine???
I took a ride over to the local dealer and had a conversation with the service manager about mods. We talked about a few different things I plan to do to the bike and they asked what I planned to do with the pipes. I explained that I recently heard of the DK Thunder Torque Inserts and I planned on removing the baffles and installing those instead. The SM's eyes got about the size of basketballs and said "Don't do that. It'll ruin your engine and void the warranty!".
This is the first I've heard of this. Can anyone tell me if this is true? Thanks in advance!
I have never heard of ANY exhaust change ever being the basis for denying a warranty claim.
The dealer, and HD Corp. can deny a claim for whatever reason they choose..does not mean they are right, does not mean it is worth it to fight them either.
There is Nothing about removing the baffles from stock exhaust and replacing with patented TTI's that is even remotely damaging to the engine.
If I ever had a warranty claim that involved the engine, I would just put the stock A/C, stock exhaust and stock tune on it before taking it in. That way I would not have to deal with any possibility that someone would try and deny a claim.
Regarding performance. If anyone thinks they have modded stock exhaust or slip-ons that will perform better without the Thunder Torque Inserts than with them, contact me directly...I will give you a set for free, If you will go get a before and after Dyno run and provide me with the charts.
We have NEVER seen an exhaust (except for the supertrapp design) that did not benefit from the TTI's.
You can look at some dyno charts at the link below to get an idea of how well they bump the low & mid range power.

On performance, yes, they will increase the low & mid range torque on your set up. (I ran CS slip-ons on my Sporty for almost 3 years with the TTI's)
I am running Rush Big Loui's with the baffles removed and the W Thunder Torque Inserts and a FP3 Tuner on a 14 SGS.
The TTI's definitely brought back the Low and Mid-range torque as promised. The FP3 helped even more.
I love the sound... it is much deeper and bit louder.
This is my '13 Wide Glide, now granted I'm running a V&H Big Shots Staggered full exhaust, DK Custom 587 A/C, and tuning with a Power Vision I purchased from DK Custom with a great map from FuelMoto but the TTI's are doing exactly what they're designed to do, bring back the bottom end performance and deepen the tone of the exhaust. These are W158's with no baffles, she sounds fantastic and the low end and mid-range performance is much improved after removal of the baffles and the addition of the TTI's. Measure your pipe to get the proper sized TTI's, this is the fitment you want, too small and you won't have the improvements you're looking for...
