Default Not your typical cam question...

So I am building up my list to do a cam swap and just wanted some insight on a couple of things. First, I planned on using the S&S cam install kit (106-5929), are these good bearings or should I be looking for something different?

I was also wondering how many that have done cam swaps recently had to use spacers? I was planning on picking up a spacer kit (25928-06) to have in case I needed it.

Since we are here....this is what I got on my list so far:

Andrews 48H cams
S&S Quickee Pushrod (106-6051)
S&S lifters (33-5350)
S&S cam install kit (106-5929)
cam spacer kit (25928-06)

Feel free to chime in if you have some tips/pointers or other advice. I have read probably every cam thread on the site and watched all the videos so I am pretty set on my choice of cam and feel confident in getting the install done. Just cant wait to get back and get it knocked out!

Thanks all!

No advise from here, sorry. However, I am interested in knowing why it is you decided to use this setup, what are you expecting to get out of it once its installed?

Chose the Andrews 48H because from everything I have read it seems to rank up near the top of performing cams for my current stage 1 setup.

Looking to get some more get up and go out of the bike at highway speeds. Low end tourqe is fine now, but when I am riding on the highway and want to speed up, say to get around someone, it seems like the power just isnt there. Of course dropping a gear helps but it still seems to be lacking...hoping this cam will help out with that.

As far as going with S&S products, good rep & Made in 'Murica!

I used the same parts that you are using. Your going to need to get the cam bearing removal/ installer. It not hard to do ,just take your time and get it right the firts time.I watched the you tube vids from S&S while doing the swap.
You will be pleased with the cams. From around 2200 rpm up they pull really hard. They really wake the motor up
I didnt need the spacer kit but might be handy, just in case.

Yeah, I am still about a month from getting home so I hoping I will be able to find a used one to buy at a discount or event rent. I plan on having the S&S videos going while I am doing this to. Im hoping I wont need the spacer kit either and I can just return it, but want to have it just in case. My bike is the only transportation that I got in Cali so I cant afford to not have it for even a day, part of the reason it has taken me so long to do this in the first place.

Quick question about your tailights, were you able to use them without a load balancer? I was told it was a hit & miss with our bikes, I missed, actually blew out bulbs trying to use them without the load balancer.
