Sumax bracket review
Overall I'm very happy with the brackets. They went on fairly easily. The hardest part, for me, was adjusting the pieces which the quarter turn fasteners attach to. Small spaces are always the worst, IMO. The bags I bought dropped right on and bolt up great.
There were only two issues I'd say were the "fault" of Sumax. First, the supplied bolts were too short. At first I though they sent the bolts for the kit without the detachable backrest. After looking I decided the bolts supplied were the "correct" ones as they had the longer piece for the shock mounts, and the included boots were vacuum packed with the shock pieces. However, the bolts were 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch to short.
Second, a corner had chipped paint, not sure if it was due to shipping or if it came that way. I suspect it was not shipping as the brackets were wrapped very well and padded very well in the box. Also, there was a touch of rust indicating it had been that way for a while. I'll take care of that shortly and it wasn't bad enough to make me want to return the brackets.
Overall based solely upon install and the brackets themselves I'd give them a 9 of 10. Having to do touch up painting and running to get the correct bolts were the only issues but enough to drop the products score. Now for the real test, to see how the hold up.
