Yeah it's an interesting sound to say the least. I believe that if you reduce the disks you actually make it more quiet... so open end cap equals roughly 8 disks, if you use the open with 12 disks which is what I did I can say that it's a little throatier, certainly less muffled and just a little louder at idle. A fair bit louder when getting on the throttle though. Still not annoying. I'm still running the closed end cap, when I open it up it's still plenty loud I feel but definitely not at idle or cruising. It's still louder than stock IMO though!

As for the fit, I had the same experience, took some jiggling around to get it all right. The heat shield on the lower pipe does not meet with the collector shield perfectly, maybe off an eighth of an inch, just a titch.

You did try the open end cap Robby? I'm loving it as-is, but as we all I think, I'd like a little more sound out of it. Just a little...

So the 8-disk logic would say that 12 disks w/open end cap would match the 20 closed I'm currently at? I don't want to screw up the sweet dyno-tune I currently have. I may want to try it out. At least I could always go back easy enough.

I still have a couple more important projects first though. My Ohlins rears just arrived - so they go on first, then I need to move the rear sigs to the plate holder, cause I need saddlebags BAD...

On mine the lower shield fits perfectly with the collector shield. The upper shield is about 1/4" short and the collector shield is tilted so the back part of the shield is down. That makes the shield touch on top of the collector and hang low off of the bottom of the collector.
I will try loosening everything up and wiggling again to see what happens.

If you want to get rid of that open end cap let me know.

When I ran the open with the 12 disks my butt couldn't feel much of a difference. Strangely the torque seemed to come on earlier which I would have thought to be the opposite once opened but maybe it was mental. I liked the volume and tone and would certainly continue to experiment but right now I'm still high on the reduced volumes at cruising. Still I feel like a pansy when people look over at me when stopped compared to the admiring looks of the last pipe lol!

Yeah goofing around while everything was loose took some time but it helped. Make sure you tighten the p clamp last.

I'm pretty sure that I'll be going back to the open cap some time soon, but you can find them on eBay pretty cheaply. For $25 it's worth experimenting.

Good luck!

Great thread. There's not a lot of people running the supermeg and i'm happy i found quite a few people who does in this thread.

I have a '14 FXDB with SE A/C and a supertrapp supermeg. It's not been dyno tuned. I have the "flash" dealer download and it runs quite good with 20 disks. (a bit of decel pops)

Torque is insane. I've raced buddies with 103's and 96's with similar mods and I am faster off the line and from a roll too. They both have short exhaust and obviously they lack the torque i have.

I'm a bit disapointed on the dyno though, only 6hp gain? I thought the gains after a dyno tune would be more than that. However, 77hp and 95 TQ is very good with basic mods. That's 89 HP and 109TQ at the motor (15% loss).

The sound is a question of taste, but like it's been mentionned in this thread, it does sound like a big block motorcross, and me coming from a motocross background, i don't really dislike this!

I will eventually get mine on the dyno, but for now it runs great and will do the suspension before.

Well, I specified that my preference is torque on the low end, so perhaps they tuned for that more then high rpm hp. And remember, I had a power vision tune before the dyno, so it probably started a fair bit higher then stock anyway.

I'm real happy with the drivability. Power is right there from 2000 on up.

I just installed a Superbrace and Ohlins S36E rears so I'm looking forward to getting out there. Being insane, I'm waiting the specified 24hours for the loctite to set on the brace and shocks. Hopefully tomorrow there will be a break in this miserable f'n weather and I can get out and see how the suspension feels... Maybe.

I would ask for a low end mid range tune too.

Good choice on the ohlins. Got any pics? What lenght shocks did you go with? Pics?

Stock length 12 1/8" - didn't want to change the jiffy stand again (had to on my old FXD when I went with a 13 3/8" shock. Lean was way too much with the stock stand.

Thanks.

I'm still debating if i go 12.5 (progressive 970's) or 13" (works). 13.5" would be a tad too tall for my short legs.
