Default Dyna Forward Contols

This is my first Harley (05 FXDC) after owning street and off-road bikes. Have already installed (myself) a Big Sucker intake, slip ons and jetted carb accordingly. During the installation of the forward contols which went well and operate correctly considering the lack of install guide (not included). Would like to know on the end of the shaft on the outside of primary a chrome retainer with a set screw is added to retain shaft. On the other side on the opposite end of shaft is a arm which is not used any longer since the forward contol is linked to the transmission directly. Would like to know if this linkage arm is supposed to be removed or retained by a bracket (have a small component which was included in kit but left over but unsure of the correct way to add). I believe it retains the arm to keep it stationary at this time it is free to rotate on the shaft and would like to add piece if designed to complete job. If anyone has advice on the correct method or even can forward a guide would be much appreciated. Would like to add this seems to be a great forum and am very satisfied in my choice on the purchase of a Dyna, very impressed.

The bracket you have left over should have a hole on 1 side and a slit on the other side. The side with the hole should attach to the unused linkage from the old shifter shaft ,and the side with the slit should attach to the engine by loosening one of the cylinder bolts enough to slide the bracket under the bolt head. Sorry if the pic doesn't help too much ,was kind of hard to get the right angle with the linkage running in front of that bracket. If you still need more info I'll try to scan the instructions I have .

Really appreciate the help 05FXD you must of gone to some trouble, Tks. Part of the problem was my kit did not include install guide
or the correct retainer bracket for 05 dyna. Modified one of the ones kit included, and with your information can order the correct one if I choose, although the one I made looks 100%.

I had the same problem as you with the bracket and decided to order one. It came in within 3 business days. Really love the forward controls.
