So here's what happened. got on the bike after work and thought first nice day all week im going for a bit of a ride before I go home. Fired up no problem as usual. everything checked out and running perfect. I get about 400 yards down the road and everything just dies. No power at all. Coast into a parking lot and try to restart. Nothing! No lights no fuel pump completely lifeless. Tried to boost it and nothing. I turn my key to ignition and absolutely nothing. Please help me on where I should start. Its never done anything like this. Coming home from work with your ride on a flatbed sucks!
Loose battery cable or blown fuse. I had that happen to me but I kept blowing fuses. Turned out one of my wires coming from the Thundermax was cut by the edge of the frame and shorted out.
Ill check to see if its a fuse. And ill try searching for a bad connection to the battery. Is there a chance it could be something to do with the ignition switch itself?
I agree with other responses, when there's a sudden total dead state, it's usually a loose battery terminal or main fuse. If it's the main fuse, it might have blown because something else is wrong - usually a wire is shorting out somewhere. Have you done anything with wires (eg changed your blinkers, added an accessory plug etc) where a wire might have been pinched against bodywork, rubbed by a tire etc?
Even if the terminals are tight, try removing them, cleaning the contacts, and re-tightening (they can sometimes oxidise). If the terminals are good/tight and the main fuse looks intact, can you use a multi-meter? If so, check across the batt terminals to ensure it's got power, check across the main fuse to ensure it's still intact (sometimes fuses can look ok but still be bad) then progressively work 'outwards', checking eg that the other ends of the batt cables have good contact with the frame/ground etc...
Thanks I did do some mods to the rear signals. I got rid of the middle brake light and filled in the hole. I checked to make nothing is rubbing there but ill have a closer look. I also installed a cobra powerpro so ill check those wires as well. Probably send it to a shop I hate electrical problems
