this past weekend did about 350 miles ... I have the standard height quick release shield. It's tough getting used to looking through the windsheild but I'm getting used to it! It seems the more Iride the more I like it! They should invent a windsheild blade with wash to clean the bugs off while riding! [8D]
I've had mine since Sept and have taken it off and on dozens of times. No problems whatsoever. You're not the first to complain though. What did the dealer do for you?
They ordered me two new clamps. Had no explanation. Of course, they weren't in stock so it's 'bout a wk away until off backorder. They did order under warranty though. I think maybe it's my fault but not sure. I mean I left the bolts loose, then tightened them down after ther Windshield was in place and secure. The funny thing was the second clamp that broke. I mean I had already been about 50 miles into it and stopped at a store to adjust it up or down, can't remember. So it's not like it was the first install. I think one thing I might be aware of is that b4 I clamp it, I might put a little pressure on the windshield towards the forks. Leave no gap between them and the forks. Maybe that's why they snapped. I do notice one thing though, it sure looks like the clamps can be a bigger ID. I mean they seem small on my StreetBob forks. It's the correct windshield though. It calls out all the dyan model's and the corresponding year. Guess I will just have to be careful though.
A friend biught a new wide glide and got the HD detachable windshield and has had 2 clamps break also, i think he said that the dealer told him that they know theres a defect with them.
ive had mine for a year now, i took it off today to clean the bike and put it back on no problem, just go even withthe clamps......the top two at the same time then the bottom two at the same time, it doesnt take any force to get it in clamped. make sure the top clamps that have the little piece that goes to line up under the top triple tree is securely in place, and yuour not tryin to clamp down against that. good luck
With the bufffeting there's a couple choices. Trim down the windshield with a jig saw. Or look into ordering a Jacks Flaps Vest. Using blue painters masking tape cover the windshield mark it using a compass with a pencil attached and then cut and file it. There is a posting for the vest from last week which I would have tried 1st if I'd known. But this would only be a summer fix. I do like looking over the top anyway instead of thru the curved windshield. I got my 100anv windshield brand new from ebay for $120. The quick detach hardware is stainless strap so they won't break. Good luck. If your in MD I could help if you want to cut it.
Have had mine off several times. I find I have the best luck if I actually preset the clamp with my right hand and set the lever on the clamp with left hand. I think the problem is the 49mm forks. Had the same shield on my Sportster and basically threw it on and snapped the clamps shut. These clamps will not take any kind of a bind and have to be set strraight or they'll break. Havent had it off for awhile cuz I love to ride hiway mostly. If I just putt around town I dont need a shield.
