........on the dang forks. Eventually it might rub the stainless finish off the fork tubes?!!! What a dang shame. I put some very thin rubber shims in the whole clamping area of each clamp to stop the marks. Anyone else notice this? FXSTC.
It's a common hazard when you have metal to metal contact.
You could get friction damage or even possibly electrolytic damage if the metals are dissimilar enough.
If you don't like the rubber your using try a piece of clear bra on the conact area inside the clamps.
Also if the clamps are not snug enough you have greater chance of friction damage from the clamps vibrating against the fork tubes.
My HD quick detach windshield appears to leave marks on the forks too. However, noticed the inside of the 4 clamps are rubber-lined and allI amreally seeing is smudges from the rubber to chrome contact. I wipe the forks down with windex after detaching the 4 windshield clamps and the smudge marks go away completely - not an issue.
