Got the Dyna home (in the rain !) not over 50 mph the first fifty miles, 125 miles on her now, no tach so I can't even guess at the r p m (question is how important is the break-in the first 500 miles) and what are the limits.I'm thinking of going on a 400 mile trip Sunday 200 up 200 back, I just don't want to mess up the engine (Dealer says just get on the dam thing and ride it, "Geeeeeezzz"
thanks

Congrats.
In the rain? You must live SW of me (Essexville) we had sunny skies for most of the day.
I think as long as you vary the engine speed that is the main thing, they don't want you running 500 miles at 80 mph on the highway.
But what do I know I bought mine used, I've broken in a lot of new cars though.
Post some pictures ofthe new ridewhen you get a chance and you can stop smiling long enough to focus.

The dealer is correct.
Run the rpms up in first and second gear. Throttle off deceleration is just as important. Making sure the engine is well warmed up is very important. Do longer rides right away. The longer the better. You can go to 5000 rpms right away and redline after 50 miles.
Actually I'm from Bay City, Rode her home in the rain on Friday from Bridgeport and had to give the bike a bath today. Heading for MtPleasant it's a cool night for a ride but that will put another 80 miles on it, just looking to get this break-in thing out of the way
Thanks for the input

Don't lug the engine, don't try to bounce it off the rev-limiter. Enjoy the he!! out of it.
If you have 125 careful miles then most of your break-in is already completed.
Now change the oil and filter.
Ride is normally just do not lug it and try not to let it overheat. The varying of rpm is to allow the rings to rotate so that the split in the ring does not just score on part of the cylibder wall.\
Welcome to the forum. Just ride the bike with variable speeds. Every now and them accelarate up to about 10 to 15 MPH, say every 5 miles orso. Do this about 3 to 4 times.
