I used a wire at the coil for signal. The wire going to the speedo is a data line, not just tach signal.
I made a bracket to mount to my risers, not sure what you could do on your bars that would be clean. I was originally going to mount it on the front side of the dash but I felt that was too low, out of my line of sight. Maybe figure out a way to tuck it up in your fairing? I wired in a connector right off the shift light too so I can unplug it and put it in my pocket in the rain or when washing the bike.
