I have a Stock triple tree on a 99 Dyna Wide Glide. Currently, I have the rear lowered 2" and front lowered 2". I run a 240 rear tire and a 23" front tire. Can I add just bolt in a 5 degree triple tree without adding length to the front forks? do I have to eliminate the 2" lowered front? any cons in doing this?
In theory it will throw the rake/trail off and handle like crap. But I've talked to dudes that have done this and they say it handles fine. You might want to remove the 2" lowering kit from the front though. I am by no means an expert on this.
Changing something like the fork angle is a change that can effect how the bike handles. Specifically, during an emergency maneuver. Unfortunately, you won't know "how" it changes until you need to perform that maneuver. Might want to "re-learn" just how your bike handles after this change.
Specifically, what are you trying to gain with this mod?
I run 4 degree trees on my Wide Glide.
I can tell you that a 2 degree over change in rake on the Wide Glide (which is a 4 degree rake in the trees total) needed a 2" over set of front tubes to get back to stock level. So i would imagine if you go to 5 degrees total you will want to remove the 2" under tubes and go back to stock to maintain the level you currently have.
It will make a slight difference in handling, but not enough to really make a difference.
