07 Super Glide 400mi. When shifting into 5th gear there seems to be a noise / chatter in the tranny (only in 5th gear) is this the norm and will it go away after the fluid is dumped @the 1000mi service
Thanks for all the help

it depends on who answers yopu here...I have an 07 Low Rider....5th gear sounds "different", but as far as a noise to be worried about...why worry? You got 2 years warranty...ride it like you stole it....errr..but with a nick like bikecop maybe I shouldn't say that.....[sm=confused06.gif]
Let you go with a warning (lol) Yeah the best way to discribe is that 5th does have a different sound, after the fulid gets dumped @ the 1000mi it may sound better all the way around.
Thanks for the info.

My '07 Lowrider does the same thing. I just started noticing the noise at about 800 miles. I have the 1000 mile service scheduled for this Wednesday, so we'll see if it makes any difference. Just as a side note, I did see an advertisement for aftermarket direct replacement gears to eliminate the 5th gear whine. So maybe someday, Harley will address it them self.
That noise in 5th gear started showing up in the '06 models with the advent of the six speed tranny. 1st and 5th gears are helical cut, and sound different than the others.
It gets quieter as you pile the miles on. Running Syn tranny oil seemed to help mine some.
Add some Vance & Hines pipes and you won't hear it at all.

Exactly!!! As I was reading this thread I was thinking if you can hear the tranny you definately need new pipes.
I'm an old gear head from way back. I hear (and feel)everything regardless of how much other noise is around. If you concentrate just a little you can feel a slight difference (vibration)in the bike in 5th gear probably because you tend to maintain more of a constant RPM in 5th as opposed to blitzing through 1st gear.
