I've got the blocky mid year console and am looking for ways to smooth it into the tank a bit better. Is there room under there to shave about 1/2" off the mounting face to drop the whole thing...making closer to the tank.
Yeah, but if I can learn from others mistakes/experience, I'll tale that option. Besides, this makes for better conversation.
Only 1 response....I don't know if it's better "conversation"
My guess is no one has done it....? All mods are attainable with enough $$ to throw at them! LOL
That being said I think it would be doable, but I don't know how to do it without it looking like a hack job. I wouldn't be able to make it look good with tools at my disposal I mean.
I don't really like the console as it is, but I also don't want to hack it up indiscriminately. I'm trying to work within a pretty small budget anyway. I suppose I'll keep an eye on eBay for a spare and see what I can come up with. I've also considered some of the other models' consoles, but asking prices are generally too high to buy one not knowing if it will fit my tank and switchgear.

For some reason consoles are priced heavily....no clue why. Can't find some cheap aftermarket ones either. I guess people don't change them up much or we would see a larger market for them.
An Early Dyna console popped up last night. Analog odometer and a corroded casting. Asking $70. That's the cheapest I've seen lately. I'd be tempted if it wasn't time for vacation. No spare funds this month.
