Picked it up today. Photos will not do it justice. Black as my heart, deep and not a hint of a flaw. Really excellent paint job. Looks better then factory.
I'll let it sit at home in nice 70+ deg temps for a week before I install it on the Low Rider. I'll also wait a month before I wax it, and apply the badges. The garage it heated to 60 deg I have been told, so while not ideal, warm enough to continue curing I think.
I've got a 2" rise kit that will also go on with it. Who knows, it looks so good as-is, I may leave the badges off a while.
So my gorgeous freshly painted tank is all ready to go. I have it sitting on a nice cotton towel on my dining room table, ready to reinstall the LED flush mount fuel gauge I had on it. Pop it in, realize I need a torx bit to tighten the bracket. Grab my stick of 1/4" torx sockets, pull off the size I need, and because God hates me, the stick slips out of my hand and drops right on the top of the tank. Gouging 8 perfect, equally spaced, 1/8" long nicks in the brand new paint. I stood there in disbelief that I was so stupid to hold that stick of sockets over the tank, that I didn't cover the tank, that I was still alive considering my heart was pounding so hard I felt like I was about to start bleeding out my ears...
I calmed down and drove quietly to the shop who did the paint, and humbly explained what I did. They took pity on me, telling me stories about just how often stuff like that happens, even to them. (Which didn't make me feel ANY better) the painter looked at it, and unfortunately it won't wet sand out, and if they try and blend it, it may not look as perfect as it did. the good news was to redo the job they'd only charge me $150 and it will be done by Friday afternoon.
So that little maneuver cost me a the price of a nice steak and martini dinner. Which sure as hell I don't deserve.
It's funny. Been working on my bikes and cars for 35 years crawling around, greasy hands, etc. and NEVER ONCE hurt paint. Here I was with everything laid out on the dining room table and wham...
That sucks man! On the bright side(for me) it will take longer for you to get everything put back together, thereby delaying me wanting to pull my tank and send it to paint.....

Don't get your hopes up. Just got back from the shop (again) - went back to pre-tip the guy since I didn't have cash when I dropped it off earlier. He said he would bake it for twice the time they normally to to make sure it was hard enough to ride without worry, so I'm going to get it on Sat morning and unless it's snowing (which with my luck, it will) I'm riding all day. I don't think I can stick with my "wait a week" plan anymore...
