Default chrome inner primary cover

OK I really hate to start a thread on this, but I didn't see anything on the DIY section about it...

I'm looking to do this mod to my bike. Is it pretty straight forward? Just take it apart and put it back together with the new part?

Anything I need to watch out for or anything special that I should be aware of?

Thanks a lot fellas.

It depends on what cover you have. If you have the complete cover from HD then you need to remove everything and you will also need new Sealing fasteners
Part #786A you need 5 of them. I believe the HD inners come with the bearing and seal preinstalled but I may be wrong. You also need a locking bar for the clutch and compensator.

So to answer your question just take it apart and put it back together. Have some loctite handy (red) The seal fasteners have patches on them, so they do not need it. Also you will need a wire-tie for the primary chain adjuster.

In addition to all of the above, the Service Manual is a definite must. Check the manual to see of there are any "special" tools required. Make sure you know what you're getting into and it's within your mechanical skill level. Take your time and you should be okay.

I agree the service manual is a life saver. In addition you will need a 30mm Deepwell socket for the clutchnut. everything else is either torx or standard.

I just had mine all apart and replaced the seals. An impact gun will be a must. Where did you get your inner primary cover?

Thanks for the info guys.

I didn't get the inner primary cover yet. I'm still thinking it over, but wanted to get some info first. I was just gonna get it from the dealer.

You need a special, and I do mean special, puller.

Thanks mud. So, it sounds like I'll be purchasing the tool along with the cover if I want to do the job myself then.
