Default Windshield or fairing?

Hi guys,
I have an 06 fxdci with a Memphis Fat shield. I'm looking into a fairing but I'm wondering if it's worth the money?
Anyone have experience with both? Is there more protection/comfort with a fairing?

I'm trying to make upgrades to increase my comfort on longer rides. Gettin older and my body is starting to hurt more than I'd like!

Thanks!
Improvements for comfort so far:
- Memphis Fats shield
- Floorboards(had mids- then forwards, then..)
- 12" chubby apes
- Progressive rear shocks
- Corbin seat (might get a touring seat)
- Air hawk for seat

I had a trial and error go around with a bunch of shields, but never a fairing. I am currently using HD quick release brackets with a memphis shades plastic. It works for me, but not tall enough. I have a clear view shield coming on Monday in fact, which is 4" taller and has an upper recurve which supposedly raises the airflow another couple inches. I'm pretty tall so getting the buffeting off my head has been a challenge. I've gotten used to the vibes so it's tolarable, but I'm looking forward to the clear view.

I only really use the shield in the fall/winter to keep the cold blast off me. I would put it on if I was going on a long trip too. But summers around here I go shield less - keeps me from roasting too much.

Sorry if this doesn't help the actual question, but the smell of roasting turkey and the booze is gettin me all talkative... :-)

Opinions will vary on this I'm sure, but my experience is windshields alone just suck on a Dyna. To much air comes up under the windshield, runs up the front of your body, and goes right up your nose, or makes your sunglasses/full face helmet vibrate. I had a Rifle quarter fairing on my 2001 Low Rider, and though it had the small bubble shield it was great. It kept the wind off my chest, and the air flow around my full face helmet was smooth with no buffeting. I'm going to try a 15" windshield on the Rifle fairing I'm going to be putting on my 2014. If you're looking at a bat wing style fairing, I have no experience with those on a Dyna, but they are awesome on a touring bike.

On my Fatbob I have the HD standard windshield. Like most I would get the buffeting from the wind coming up my chest. I know it's not for everyone, but I adapted a set of el-cheapo hard lowers from amazon to fit a standard HD engine guard. They made a huge difference with the buffeting plus living in ND it helps with keeping the damn mesquites off and warmer for the early morning rides.

I've got the Memphis Shades fairing on a Super Glide, Much better than a wind shield. On real windy days helps alot. getting caught in rain you stay drier.
With the Quick release brackets its on or off in about a minute, and you can adjust the angle to get the best feel. Memphis shades also offers the deflectors in the lower corners, there a must. I ended up getting a tall shield, cut it down twice to suit my needs, I would rather look over the top than look through the plastic.
I still get some wind around the fairing which is fine, If I didn't want wind then I would drive the MG with the top up.

Which fairing? Cafe, gauntlet or batwing?

This is my 02 Super Glide with Memphis Shades batwing, 14in windshield with the wings and fork deflectors. I still get a LOT of wind behind windshield. The wind comes over my knees, up my chest and right under my chin. At around 60 MPH and up my head and helmet buffets.

I went with the Memphis Shades batwing fairing to replace my HD windshield. Much less wind buffeting and the fairing keeps the cold air off the hands on these cold days. For me it's a no-brainer, the fairing is the one.
