I have done both types. Installed the lower one on a 10 Superglide and the side mount one on a 13 Street bob. Both were the HD versions. I left the cover off of the side mount one. Since I had engine guards on the bike the side mount is hardly noticeable. I also left the cover off of it. I wanted no wind restrictions and the most surface area exposed. I running a 120R so the more cooling the better. I did not detract from the look at all.

No difference in the ease of mounting. They are an easy DIY project.

looks new enough, these days I can't buy from the US because of the exchange rate, and ebay.ca sucks when it comes to anything Harley at all, even aftermarket parts! So I haven't bothered in about a year!

how's that thermostat holding up?

i just grabbed this 26151-07 for ~$100 on ebay.

and also grabbed a digital dipstick, 63004-09A, to get a baseline from my bike.

DK:

I spoke to Marvin at Jagg and he confirmed the that Jagg stopped selling to HD in 2004.

Good luck with the install and awesome deal! I need to keep my eye out for an oil temp gage as well, thanks for the reminder...

might work better on the side of the down tube too
i have thought about this mod as i live in south texas where it can stay over 100 for a month straight
Having ran a Harley low mount cooler, I can tell you rocks or any other road debris are not a problem.

I ride my bike to work every day possible and not only ride through farm country but I work on a farm and work off a gravel road with rock from chat sized up to 3in Rock and everything in between. And never even had a damaged fin on my cooler.

That is a good find also. I got worried about the heat after getting stuck on the freeway in downtown Houston one August afternoon. I do not know how hot it got, but I could tell it was pretty hot. I do not like not knowing the health of my engine...airplane mechanic thing, I guess. I started digging around on eBay and swap meets looking for a cooler kit. There were a few out there, mostly in the $250+ range. I stumbled on this one while surfing eBay for bling and jumped on it.

I haven't had any issues that I am aware. It has been on for about 10K miles with no concerns. I got stuck in afternoon traffic in June this year and it seemed to me that it was idling cooler. Anyway, down here I would not have any issues at all with removing the thermostat and letting it cycle through the cooler freely. Might be a little cranky on the 3-5 really cold mornings we have here but other than that, I cannot see any problem without it.

How is that LCD digital display on the dipstick working out? I looked at the digital temp dipstick gauges but was concerned that I would not be able to see the display. Analog display is better for registering change than a digital display for monitoring change for my old school brain.

I ordered the dipstick yesterday. once it arrives, I will run it for a week or so to get a baseline. There's no rush to throw the cooler on right now. it just get real in the panhandle in the summer.

I agree about the analog gauge. the dipstick on my sporty is analog and easy to read + requires no cr 2032 battery. the dyna on has the lcd, that I can find anyway. totally prefer the analog.

They used to be terrible....Over the years they have gotten better...but you still see about 25% of them dying within the first year. The last one I got lasted exactly one day, exchanged it, and 1.5 years later it is still working perfectly.

They have a one year warranty...if you are happy spending that kind of $ for a guaranteed one year service, you're good to go, after that it's a crap shoot.
