A tip to combat the parachute effect, find the position you like then move them forward about 3/4 to an inch so you lean forward into the wind just a little. Stops you hanging your upper body weight backwards off the bars and I find it to be a better posture and significantly reduces the work load on my lower back. Also it fixed the numb hands problem for me. I can and regularly ride comfy 8+ hrs with my 16s
OP lives on the Canadian windswept prairies next door to me. 30 mi/hr winds is an everyday occurrence. Apes in the woods are different than apes in the wide open.
