I have to ask. What is your riding experience and mechanical ability?
$2K - $3K and some search for best part prices can completely transform any bike, if you have a fair mechanical skill set. If you don't have any skill search until you find exactly what you think you want. Chances are you'll still change it up.
The above are before and after LowRider Evos final $$$ less than $5K - $6K - Sales price +$3K ater I rode them a year. It's all about what you want and what you can do.
Been riding for quite a few years. Took a few years off when I moved out of the People's Republic of NJ. Got to NC and got right back into riding (took a MSF course for a refresher). Back in NJ I was a truck mechanic before switching to computers (which allow me to spend a good amount more on bikes), so I am fine with working on stuff. I wouldn't be stupid enough to rip an engine or tranny apart after being away for so long, but I am confident with most other things.

In that case - find what you think fits you best. Lots of deals to be had, if you have the money and don't hesitate when you find the one. Used parts, new take offs, Aftermarket can transform a CRUSTY, good running bike into a looker.
Wish you the best.
Whenever BUY A SHOP MANUAL H-D.
Hey man just a heads up, but I just took an 06 superglide (6spd, FI) in on trade. Bike has less than 10k on it, cant confirm as the speedo was removed though. Everything is really tight and clean on it though, so id say thats correct. I do have the speedo, along with a bunch of other takeoff parts. PO stripped it down for more of a bobber look i guess. Anyway, Ill take $6000 for it if your interested.
Find a 2010 - 2013 Wide Gide with ABS with 20,000 or less miles for about 10 grand. You won't be sorry. Go to a dealer and ride a '14 or '15 Wide Glide. Same bike.
