Fitting a new deuce cast wheel to an fxdc , instructions say the valve side of the wheel is the primary bearing side ....... Now then , does this mean the primary side of the bike eg drive side or as I've read somewhere else do Harley refer to the brake rotor side as the primary side ???? Confused.com
Cheers
Alex wu can you shed any light please

When replacing Harley wheel bearings, the 'primary' bearing refers to the wheel bearing that is pressed into the hub first, followed by the sleeve and second bearing from the opposite side. In some cases shims may also need to be installed - check your kit install instructions carefully. This is to ensure proper spacing so that everything lines up properly when re-installing the wheel and brake rotor into the forks/swing arm.

Because of the bike's lean angle when parked, the tire air valve usually faces/points toward the exhaust side for easier servicing, except for wider custom wheels where the air valve might be dead center of the wheel pointing straight up.

Hope that helps.

Brake rotor side is always the primary side when discussing Harley wheel bearings. If you have dual discs up front then it's the left side of the bike as seen sitting on the bike.

There is a machined lip in the bearing bore that the primary side bearing seats against. The opposing bearing does not have a machined lip but seats on the spacer that is between the two bearings.
