Default Street Bob upgrades

Im kind of new to the motorcycle world, I know my way around cars and trucks but I am just getting my feet wet the bikes and could use some help. I have an '06 Street bob and I'm wanting to squeeze some more power out of it. I'm just not really sure what my options are or what the best way is. It's all stock, fuel injected, twin cam, 96 in.

I've been told new cams and big bore kits. I'm just curious if there is anything else that would be a good idea and if so are there any kits that have everything I need?

Any ideas, hints, tips, advice or stories would be great.

Paint it black...+5hp.
Paint it white...+2hp

Or better yet...use the search function and start reading previous threads on performance mods! These topics have been beaten to death.

Spend a few weeks reading all the threads recently from top down. These types of conversations have been well documented with great input from many members already.

Depends on how much money you want to spend. How much power do you want? Ride it awhile and get to know the bike first. You may decide you want to improve the ride and handling before adding power.
Low buck step one: cams, exhaust mods, air cleaner, and maybe a tuner.

When I started riding I asked the same questions about up grading performance. An old rider at least in his mid 60s said if you want that bike to perform your money would be better spent on gas, oil, and time in the seat. As a new rider, it was the best advice after the safety course.

Ride that thing you will figure out what you want to improve.

Upgrade are referred to in "Stages"

Stage 1- Rpl to more free flowing Air filter and rpl with more free flowing exhaust and add a tuner to change air-fuel ratio to compensate for more air;
$1,500-2,000 (presuming shop labor)
Stage 2- with above, add cams, lifters, valve springs and rods $1700-2000(more)
Stage 3- High compression heads and/or pistons, more money.
Stage 4 and 5- blowers, alcohol burners and stuff
Best advice you got was from BigPoppa,, start reading.

Pretty sure the 2006 FXDB was 88 cubic inch.

Either way, air filter, exhaust, and tune are a good start.

Ride the snot out of her then decide. It's easy to get caught up in the research over this. I did and just decide for now I changed the looks and I'm going for the "poor man's" stage 1 with DK TTI's, DK Fl-Xieds and a SS Stealth AC. When money dictates I'll change the exhaust and grab a decent tuner(maybe).

Take your time and as mentioned, read. Use the "Search" feature near the top of the web page - it is not the best Search feature I have seen but does work.

Figure out your budget and then make a plan. Improving your engines performance starts at about $1K and can go to $6K depending on how much power you can afford.

A Harley is a cruiser.. If you want something fast get a different bike. You won't notice the little you pick up from a pipe, filter and tune.

If it's an all stock '06, then it's an 88 not a 96.

Getting more power out of any combustion engine, is all about the same: How much fuel/air you can get in, compressed to a certain amount, ignited and exhausted efficiently....

I've seen some 95" kits wake up an 88'er.

Oh.. and read. It boils down to 'we can't tell you what you want your motor to do'... figure out what you want the bike to do... then figure out how much that costs... then recalculate what is a reasonable expectation about what you want the bike to do... and budget for it.
