So, I'm pretty new to having a Harley (or a bike worth adding to for that matter) and I'd really like to get a good, solid set of crash bars for my 07 lowrider. I've done some searching, and found a few brands like cobra or lindby, but both are pretty expensive by my standard. Can anyone suggest or post a picture of a solid, good looking set of crash bars, preferably in chrome (to match the bike)? I'm not trying to be cheap, but after the bike, I'm trying to be frugal until I build the "fun stuff" budget back up.
Bung King makes a set of crash sliders/ bars that will actually do something in the event of a low side crash or drop. But they only come in black, BUT they do have front, rear, and sliders that mount at the top shock bolt. So they'll actually save paint and turn signals as well.
the term crash bars are misleading. I think just about all the manufacturers of these bars don't make safety claims for these bars for anything more than parking lot tip overs. That said, Id bet that in any sort of highway speed incident you and your bike would be better off with them than without them, but I wouldn't count on them to protect me. All you need to do is to take a look at the upper mounting point of these bars. My wife has a Lindby bar on her Low Rider and the top bar mount is nothing more than a single quarter inch bolt. The Lower mounts are more substantial but I think the weak link would be the upper mount.

Oh, I agree. I'm not really looking for them to prevent anything other than damage in a parking lot, really. I'm new to Harleys and I wanted to practice technique in the local empty lot for a while before I got too involved on the road. My only other bike so far is a 79 yamaha xs750, and the change is a lot to just jump into. Just hoping to protect my new ride a bit.
That being said, I didn't realize crash bars could be so expensive. The bung king set would be perfect, but the front and rear are about 600 together. I found a cheaper ebay option, but there's no manufacturer listed and I dunno if there's anything I should worry about in buying a cheap bar.
I'd love to. Craigslist is dry in my area, I haven't had any luck. I keep watching the classifieds here too. Ebay floats around 130-160ish on the cheap end. I'm on the lookout though!
