I have an 07 FXD. I DO NOT HAVE MY SPEEDO AVAILABLE FOR A COUPLE WEEKS TO CHECK FOR CODES. It's been hard starting and now no start. It cranks fast and has a hard spark. It has plenty of fuel because I changed the plugs after they fouled wet from trying to start it so much. Just for haha's put in a new crank sensor, IAC because I had new spares from an old bike deal I made. Still the same. WTF! I have a LOT of knowledge with bikes and cars that are injected and computerized, but, without the availability to check codes, and not wanting to just buy every electronic part there is, what should I do first? BTW, I'm not gonna take it anywhere. I'd rather wait til I get my speedo back, and see of it throws any codes. Just need good advice.
P.S. I've done a LOT of searches and it seems it could be any number of things.
If you were getting good spark it's strange that the plugs were gas fouled. Based on your knowledge I'll assume you checked the plug wire connections at the boots and coil, as well as all battery and ground connections.
Is the fuel pump coming on when you hit the Run button?
Fuel pressure could be low. These bikes are known to rub pinholes in the fuel line in the tank.
Do you have some type of tuner installed?
Exactly. Lots of spark, and fuel. Also air obviously. LOL Fuel pump comes on, and works based on wet plugs from cranking the hell out of it. Wires are fine and coil is good because I even put "inline" spark windows between the plugs and wires to check. Connections are good or I wouldn't have spark or fast cranking, but yes I've been doing al the "simple' stuff just because I'm stumped. I'm now frustrated enough just to change stuff that doesn't make sense like the TPS, MAP sensor etc. It has a Thundermax, that I did a master reset, after a very frustrating two days and loaded a "new" map. Same sh*t. really don't want to wait until i get my speedo back. UGH!!!! lol
Sometimes the TMax connector can be a little loose and that will cause some very strange things to happen. Take it apart and check for any bent pins, clean it out with some contact cleaner. When you put it back together use a couple of small zip ties to keep it tight.
If you haven't already looked, there is an engine diagnostic code section in the TMax Control Center.
Thanks, did all that type of things with ALL the electronics. The main thing bugging me is it HAS spark. Also fuel. GEEEEZ I'm Gonna set this thing on fire! LOL
I'm no expert, actually, I'm not too smart, but if you have fuel and spark, and both seem good, it seems timing related to me. Of course, the set by the ECU, and the Thundermax. One or both might be bad. Of course, a bad sensor could be the root as well, as you and others here know. CPS seems like a candidate . . .
It ran for 6 months without speedo. I changed the CPS, and the IAC. I'm gonna contact zippers monday and see what they say. I did the hard reset and reloaded a new map and still nothing. I will throw money at it just to fix my problem, while I wait for my speedo. Sad. LOL
