Default I love my life....

My dealer calls me last week. Seems my trade in FXDL blew a fork seal on a test ride. It has racetech springs and emulators set up for my 280lb fat ***. The sales manager asked me if I had the original internals, so they could revert it for the "average" 185lb rider since they were going into the forks under warrantee anyway. I didn't, but offered the internals from my new bike if they swapped my racetech stuff out. They offered me a deal on the labor so I accepted.

Dropped it off last night, expecting to have it back this afternoon. I get a call around 3 saying "we had a problem" - they said the threads at the bottom of the fork stripped "by the factory" and it wasn't safe to put it back together, so they ordered me a new lower and will get it done by Thursday at the latest.

I'm trying to figure out what threads they say were stripped. The sales manager who set this up said he could "feel with his finger" the stripped threads.

WTF threads are there that you can feel with a finger?

Sorry, but I'm livid at not having my bike for a week, and felt the need to rant.

I'm going to reach out to the GM and try and get them to eat the entire bill, since as they are claiming it's a "warrantee" issue, they are getting paid from HD anyway.

Goddammit.

I'm guessing they're referring to the threads that the axle clamp bolts thread into on the bottom of one of the fork legs. Not sure how the factory could mess those up, but I'd agree that they're important. Not sure how you'd feel that with your finger...

What bike are they giving you to ride while yours is getting fixed?

Michael, calm down. You may blow a arterie. In addition to getting the work for free it is obvious they should also give you a free loaner. It IS the first weekend of summer.
And it's good you love your life... You only get one.

Yeah, I was figuring the clamp threads as well.

No loaner was offered. Honestly, I don't really want one. I got a cage. I want to ride my bike, not someone else's.

Antonio, I'm good. Blowing off steam is how I've survived this long. Keeping it bottled up is what kills you.

Not sure about the free part, but I'm going to press the GM for it.

Following up:

Called the service dept yesterday to make sure I'd be ready to get it today. Writer said the part was due in first thing and it should be ready after lunch.

I call a little while ago and the service person who answered said "the part didn't come it - it's on back order with no release date..." Got to the service manager who gave me "there's nothing we can do" line. Asked for the GM - the service manager gave me the usual "he's outside, he's busy, he's..." I said I'd wait. Finally got to him. He said he knew what was happening and said he was going to see if they can order an entire fork if that is available.

So now I got no bike, and no recourse other then to sit around and wait. How the hell is a new production part not available?

Yes, I'm pissed.
