So I developed a sudden high idle on my 14 FXDWG. Here is a little rundown of what I have.
V&H short shots.
Dk customs air breather.
And power vision 2 tuner.
All installed roughly 18 months or so. Everything has been great since install.
Yesterday about 5 minutes after leaving the house. Front Exhaust header came loose so I turned around went to the house and fixed it. Got it back running everything seemed fine. Later on down the road started noticing she was idling a little high. Around 1200-1300 usually she stays steady around 980-1000. Later in the evening the idle steadily got higher. 1700-2000. Very high. Now on startup sometimes she idles around 3000 for a few seconds. Then drops to around 2000. Then seems to settle around 1700. Cleaned the IAC valve. Seems to be functioning correctly I guess. Plugged the tuner in, tried changing tunes, nothing. Tried loading original stock tune, nothing. Tried using the live idle tool and it doesn't change the idle at all. Nothing seems to change the idle. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or do I have to bring it in.
Could an intake leaks cause a high idle though? Wouldn't symptoms of a leak be low idle and stalling out? Hard starts? Or am I not thinking about it correctly. Not an expert when it comes to engines. But I do have a basic understanding.
With a closed loop EFI system measuring the exhaust it's gonna dump more fuel because of the extra air bypassing the throttle body. Effectively the same thing as opening the throttle.
My 14' wide glide did this one day. Turns out the DK Customs air cleaner gasket, that is mounted to the throttle body, moved. And was holding the valve open, and the throttle was struck at about 3500 rpm. Took the A/C apart, put on another gasket and I have been fine ever since.
I've checked the throttle lock. That's all the way out, all the gaskets for the dk filter all the gaskets looked good, checked that when I was cleaning the IAC valve. Got an appointment to bring it in Tuesday for the 15k oil change. I will have them look into it before my warranty expires next month. It's just aggravating and sounds like crap.
my switchback did this last year and it was a bad throttle body replaced under the emissions warranty.. they had the TB in stock but no freaking gasket believe it or not..
it was 10 days from the time I dropped my bike off to get it back from them for a lousy $2.39 gasket, worst part was a dealer across the river had gasket in stock and since they hate each other didn't to a dealer to dealer trade..
edit: forgot to add, did you do the work yourself or did you have your dealer do it??..
if they did it you should be good to go, if you did it they may hassle you for the warranty
the MOCO started breaking ***** last year
I installed the pipes, tuner, and A/C myself but never messed with throttle body. Everything was working fine. Until this weekend. Rode in a decent amount of rain, And the front header fell off in dry weather. Is there a way to check see if the IAC valve is opening and closing properly?
