I cut the cats out and went down to O'Reillys and bought the couplers. You can see one side is smaller then the other. I left the packing in but i do plan on removing it one day. I just have the stage 1 download. It's twice as loud as the stock unmoded s/e slip ons.
Thanks. I'm trying to just add a little noise without it sounding bad. I fear if I take the cats out (which is more of a permanent thing) that it may sound like I mounted a coffee can on there and won't be happy with it.
I threw my back out, so I am not able to really ride it and see if the packing removal made that much of a difference. But, I think it will, because when you really got on it, it had such an odd muffled sound and looking at the packing, it would appear every molecule of exhaust would have to go through the packing. Your video reminds me of what the exhaust sounded like before I did anything. The other guy that posted the stock mufflers with TTI's and no baffles sounds bad ***, but I'm worried it'll be a hollow tin sound as well.
What would be nice is if I could get a set of baffles to swap in, but from the prices of some of them I'd might as well just get different pipes. The cycle shack ones look almost identical to the current baffles and I don't want to pay $100+ for the big city thunder ones. At this point, I think if I went further it'd maybe be a TTI from DK.

Little update here - I managed to take the bike for a spin yesterday. Sounds better at idle and low throttle. Still has an odd sound at higher rpms - Its very difficult to describe...sounds good and throaty, but when you get on it the noise changes...
Really considering gutting the cat...
