Default garage door remote mod

i saw a mod for the garage door remote in a metric forum a few years ago that added a button to the bike's storage (battery cover on a HD) and wondered if anyone has done anything like this? My remote is clipped on the edge of my bags and is still a hastle to get to when pulling up to the garage. I"m also waiting to reach down and discover that the remote has jumped out on a ride and i can no longer get in my garage.

Anyone?

I want one, but I am too lazy to look into it! The American way!

I have seen one. The guy keeps his remote in the windshield bag. The wiring ran thru the bars up to the left side turn signal/clutch lever housing. He had drilled a small hole on the bottom side of the clutch lever housing and installed a tiny push button micro switch he bought at Radioshack that activates the door opener when pushed in. Nice idea, but the wires coming out of the bag were a bit hokey for me......pg

i did this one and i'm very happy with the results
http://www.shareaproject.com/pages/p...,p,208,00.html
click on the pictures and there is more info. i don't rememeber the part #'s for the switch but there are two things you need, the switch and the little rubber cover. both are really cheap.

i guess the only thing that sucks is that since i didn't wire it to a power source i'll have to change the battery but it doesn't get that often and i'm ok with that. and, since it is behind the dash, i have to get a little closer to the door but it still works 50 or so ft away and my doors' pretty quick.

the only hard part was soldering the wires to the board. i didn't have a solder that small or the skills and a buddy of mine wires up boards and stuff for concerts so he did it for me.
also, depending on the remote, it can be kinda hard to find the right circuit to tap into, it was on mine cause the remote is very small, like car alarm small.

and i did have a little trouble getting the hole lined up right. it is a little off but i'm the only one that notices. i got a chuckle out of the guys at the dealership scratching their heads trying to figure out what the button was for.

HomeLink, which is a Johnson Controls product offered in many high-end cars offers a three function battery powered version for bikes. It controls up to three seperate devices and mounts to the bars. It has a chrome face-plate, and the body is black ABS plastic (signal won't pass through chrome). It's about the size of a pack of cigs.

Hell's Foundry stocks them at: http://secure.netsolhost.com/177731....e=MoreHotItems

They also have them for chubby 1.25" bars under a different part number.

that would make the bars a little crowded. that thing looks kind of bulky.

What, with my bobblehead and fuzzy dice already on the bars, the real estate would get a little crowded!
