Porting your heads is fine my issue is I think I got a bad casting or a head out of a bad run on my front cylinder. I've stripped 2 holes for the rocker bolts in the heads while using a snap on torque wrench and never getting close to the torque spec. Just pulled the threads out of the head. Everyone I have talked to has said the metal in the s&s heads is way better so I'm not taking the chance and I'm going that route.

I had my heads ported last year and they worked well I'm just sick of popping threads for the rocker bolts.

Hey i thought i was alone

I've stripped 3 threads from the rocker bolts, a 2007 FXDC, front cylinder, and in the same way, i didn't even come close to the torque spec when they stripped.

I had my snap on torque wrench on it going slowly and carefully it hit 13 ft lbs and started going backwards on both of them. Not sure if its a bad casting or the crap metal harley used in the heads but Im hopping on the S&S bandwagon and getting their heads.

Well I got the cams installed and then decided to pull the heads to see how bad the threads really are and I was correct they stripped pretty bad. The one that has been fixed previously looks to be stripping the helicoil out now. Pulled the oil pump completely apart and inspected it since I had damage to the old one over the summer and everything looked good.

Brakes are installed minus the tee fitting that I am still waiting to be shipped to me but they look awesome on the bike can't wait to test em out when I get it all back together. Heads are hopefully going to be bought in the next week or so and then exhaust and intake after that!

Time for a Keensert, Helicoils are a temporary repair at best. Keenserts will work fine for repeated assemblies and hold full torque. Its a better repair.

At the time of the repair I actually asked the local shop I had do the repair to use a timesert. They apparently decided not to and just threw a helicoil in and told me to come pick up the head. I threw it together and ran it for the time being knowing I'd have to adress it when I tore it down the next time. Now that I have more than one rocker bolt that's stripped I can justify the money to buy new heads so I'm going that route. S&S super stock heads are on the list of parts I'm picking up.

Got the front brakes fully hooked up but haven't added fluid yet as I picked up a new project to work on for a bit. Picked up a 2016 Lowrider that was wrecked on Wednesday and started tearing into that over the weekend so the Superglide will be on the back burner for a couple weeks. Heres a couple pics of the lowrider to for something to look at! Stripped it down to a bare frame and mostly reassembled into a new frame. Will be doing inventory on damaged parts and ordering those soon and getting it all back together to sell it in the spring!

Wednesday when I picked it up

Motor pulled and frame getting stripped of wiring

As she sits now with a new frame all wiring run and motor mounted back up along with swinger and rear wheel.
