Well its looking more and more the way helmets grab the wind coming from the wheels and road, this is getting really interesting, and possibly the road to a solution.

I am lost with this one...maybe I do not know what "buffeting" is...

I wear a skull cap with OTG googles and ride without a windshield most of the time. Unless there are serious cross-winds or head-winds, or passing a big truck, I do not notice anything but the wind in my face.

When I put on the windshield (cold weather and/or rain), I adjust it so it presents a even front to the wind and tilted back so the windstream flows over my head...

Cheers for that feedback, it seems your Skull cap is not catching the wind coming up from the road, this is great news, it really points the direction in the design of the Full face helmets, and some others that are grabbing the wind at the bottom, logic looks like we basically need a goldfish bowl on our head to deflect the wind, to not have to use lowers etc, just my point of vue.

Something like this looks like a good place to start.

If you have properly adjusted lowers with a windshield, you can wear no helmet, 1/2 helmet, 3/4 with bubble, modular, or full face without buffeting. Properly adjusted lowers moves the air coming up under the windshield away from your head, so if you want to wear a fishbowl, go ahead. If your lowers only work with one style of helmet, then they are not working, you are. I had to tip mine as far forward as the slots allowed. A tiny difference on the front forks, but a huge difference to the airstream.

Cheers for that info, only joking not looking to put a fish bowl on my head, just looking at ways to push the air from the road past the helmets, without having to use lowers, its just a wintertime project, but you are 100% correct it is all about the correct settings with lowers, because all riders are different.

Bob,
Look at any car and you will see the windshield is at 35-40 degree angle. Harley windshields are about 20 at best. I contacted and bought a pair of Rifle windshield brackets and with very little change installed including quick release clamps. Now at an more acute angle there is very little if no buffeting.. Eventually I also had Rifle make me a custom windshield($175) and used the same brackets and clamps. It the latter case, I had them extend the bottom about 6 inches and widen about 3-4 inches. Much less wind. Its the angle of the dangle that counts.

That really is interesting info about the angle, although many have tried different angles, it seems to work for some and not for others, I have an idea to just stick a neck brace under my full face helmet, and when the ice goes away in a few days I will see what happens, the go kart riders gave me this idea, if it works I will try to make something that is more of a V from the neck up to stop wind hitting the flat spot around the base of the helmet, because with my old style jet helmet, there is no buffeting.

Cannot disagree on that, but when you ride in a German winter, you are glad to have some sort of screen.
