I removed cat on my fatbob with rush slip ons, didn't cost anything. It was louder and lost torque at low end. replaced with supertrapp and sold the header. I wouldn't do it again. (remove cat)
I've never played with a bike with emissions systems, but I know on a car the cat does reduce volume and mellow the tone. It's a noticeable difference.
this is what I would be concerned with, more so if you ever want to trade your bike in. It seems like they really have a hard on for HD lately (which is ****ed up considering the fuel mileage we get). I'd rather pay an exhaust company than the epa but that's just me. I'd leave it alone.

I have a 2014 switchback with a thunder header slip on. I still have the factory headpipe with cat intact. I like the sound of the thunderheader but I want it louder. local shop tells me they have decatted header pipes but it doesn't make it much louder.ANY SUGGESTIONS??
I went full thunderheader on mine. It seemed quiet at first, but after it had a few miles, the tone, and volume increased. It seems pretty quiet until I really rip on it. The guys behind me claim it's pretty snappy. It became pretty barky between gears as well. I definitely don't want another pipe I'm very happy. Also since the end of the pipe is under the bags, I wonder if maybe that's not a little dampening to you.

thanks to all those with helpful advice. I can only assume nobody has or it is not possible to alter the slipon.I still like the sound of the thunderheader for the price I paid.
Up the compression or get some different cams it'll change the tone completely. I have a full thunderheader on my 02 Low Rider and thought it was too quiet until I got some cams put in and changed it significantly.

i agree 100%. I just did my se117 and the se 259 cams came with it. I loved my fatcat before the upgrade, but man with the extra 7 ci and se cams, it ****in screams way better. Cams will definitely make a difference.
