Default ? for all Dyna owners

I currently have a 883 Iron and want to upgrade to either a Dyna or a Softail . Salesman who sold me my Iron stated, " that the Dyna low rider model the one I was sitting on was just a Sporster with a much larger engine and still would have the same handling characterics as a Sporster such as the high center of gravity" . I seemed to sit in the Dyna more comfortable than the Sporster . Controls are more forward but not as forward as the Slim Softail . Do owners just consider their Dyna just to be a bigger version of the Sporster ?

Coming from a Sportster myself, I think that the Dyna actually handles better, especially at low speed. I definitely don't think of mine as a larger Sporty.

First rule; never take the salesman's word on anything. Do the research and by that I mean get out and ride them both/all. No, a Dyna is a larger bike, has a larger motor and lots more room than a sportster. Handling is much better on a Dyna than a Soft tail in my personal experience. Go ride them and judge the handling characteristics yourself.

Hell no I don't consider my Dyna a big sportster. No offense to sportster owners or anything cause they are still good bikes, but my Dyna has so much more to offer. In my opinion it handles better than a sportster for one, I have some of the bullshit features that I didn't want, but have grown to like. Like cruise control throttle by wire, etc. it has a better suspension as mines a lowrider s, I have a lot more options in the performance world. I would highly suggest the Dyna. Softails are nice. I do like them, more so the night train, but as far as appearances, I like the bobber look better. I don't like the softail forks, the way the headlight mounts, the tank, basically the look just isn't me (except I do want to do a 124 build to a night train at some point if I can afford it. One thing I do like is the hard tail look to the softails.

We know how that will go. We know he loves his Sportsters. I liked mine too and it handled the curves much better and had a way better lean angle, so if you want spirited riding, the Sportster will do it better. To me, the Dyna is better at the low speed stuff and is much more comfortable. It's a better all-around bike than the Sportster, in my opinion. You may have a different opinion once you get on one and try it out. That's the only way you will truly know.

I came off a 97 1200 Custom which was a great bike put 30 thousand miles on it , but my low rider is better plain and simple.
Like was said go ride one, as soon as I rode mine I knew I was taking it home, fit me great just felt like it was made for me.

+1
The dyna series are the performance models of the HD line besides the Vrod models. They share some similarities with the sportster such as the coil over shocks and the XL style front fork like you see on the SuperGlide and Low Riders. They just handle a lot better than the sportster line I think. Sportsters were originally built as a racing motorcycle for flat track. Ride them both and decide which one you like.

My Street Bob in no way shape or form felt like my old Iron. I actually went looking for a soft tail when I wanted to upgrade thinking the same thing you heard. My sales guy talked me into trying a dyna instead and I'm so happy he did.

Better on the highway, easier to handle, low center of gravity, wind doesn't try blowing you off all the time, and I still think feel it's way faster than the Iron.

I like both families of bikes but no way is a Dyna a big Sportster. Nor is a Road King just a big Dyna.

My Street Bob with a 120R is just a Dyna with a really big motor.
