Cooling a WG
It also not about one supplier being better..., worse..., whatever..., than another - going the direction I'm going
It simply one way - one might go about tackling the task of cooling down a bike
Plan:
Add wimmer dual tube oil cooler..., w/ fueling filter off set - all plumbed w/ AN fittings
Add the lj mini fans
====================
Below is a pic of the oil cooling system
The 4 - 3/8 npt to barb connections have been removed
1/4" has been removed from each end of the oil coolers to allow for plenty of wrench "bite" when tightening the 3/8 npt to -6 an fittings
After mocking up - this evening - I ordered 1ea
-6 an female hose - 45 degree
-6 an female hose - 90 degree
-6 an female hose - 120 degree
-6 an female hose - 150 degree
Some combination of above..., will help better route the hoses..., from the oil offset..., to the cooler inlets
iow - this'll eliminate sever bending of the hose in order to make the connections to each side of the oil cooler - from the oil filter offset
===============
Mini fans were ordered Wed, Mar 01 - still no eta on shipment

More to follow as add'l parts come in
Grab a beer and enjoy the show

Will you be able to gather any temperature data from pre- and post- modification?
I've looked at those Wimmer tubes myself but just can't quite get there from where I'm at. (I've got a Jagg low-mount with thermostat valve). if the tube work.good and look like I think once mounted, I'd probably.pull the trigger.
Where I'm at, and how I ride, additional cooling isn't really necessary but I like the peace of mind and the bike came with the Jagg, so...why not?
Adding that I've also considered making my own extra-length finned tubes. Maybe if I get bored in a year or two...

I'll make it as controlled as possible - keep speed / run time & distance - as close as is possible
Also pick two consecutive days where temps foretasted to be similar
Make a run pre-installation..., measure temp - install - then make the exact same run..., and measure temp
Using the same measuring points front and rear cylinders..., and top of oil filter (I don't have an actual oil temp gauge)
=========
I'll do this with just the oil cooler
Then again w/ oil cooler & fans

Many times I've seen someone spend $'s for an upgrade / add on..., then try like hell - to convince the rest of us..., their add on is the best thing since the inception of buttered bread
Trying to justify the $'s spent in their own head - me thinks
=================
This cooling system worth the $s.., or not - I've no clue yet
We'll let the data (temp deltas) suss that out

Was thinking on this last night - and want to do a straw pole
Let's (at least a few of us) - agree on where I should take temps
Actual oil would be best - but I don't have an oil temp gauge - nor plan to get one
I do have a digital cooking thermometer - and plan to stick that down the oil fill hole
Also - I would expect motor temp to initially rise after shut down - then begin to decrease (wind / air flow cooling effect has ceased)
================
So - where should I measure temps (w/ the pyrometer)
How long after shutdown..., and within what window of time frame - do I have to take said temps
I will stick the digital cooking probe immediately in the oil hole after shut down and measure that

Not to put you on the spot - but you're good at this sort of ****
Any ideas..., and anyone else w/ an idea - also chime in
We get some sort of consensus - then we can use it as a valid comparison
=============
Then..., whether X amount of temp delta is worth it.., or not - is an individual call

Since we're only concerned with the delta, I'm not sure it makes a whole lot of difference as long as the pre- & post- measurement parameters are the same.
